New on the Menu: Beetroot & Feta Scones for Afternoon Tea

27th October 2025

At Zebedees, we’re always creating delicious and nutritious new dishes for little ones to enjoy. Our latest addition to the Afternoon Tea Menu is something truly special – Beetroot & Feta Scones.

These colourful, soft, and savoury scones are not only eye-catching but packed with goodness. The natural sweetness of beetroot pairs perfectly with the creamy, tangy flavour of feta, creating a unique and wholesome snack that children love.

Whether served warm with a little butter or as part of a balanced afternoon tea platter, these scones are a great way to introduce new flavours and nutrients into a child’s diet.

Beetroot & Feta Scones Recipe

Ingredients

  • 225g self-raising flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 55g butter

  • 30g feta, diced

  • 130ml whole milk (you may not need it all)

  • ½ a beetroot, very finely grated

  • 1 tbsp beetroot powder (plus a little extra for sprinkling on top)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (200°C Fan) / Gas 7 and lightly grease a baking sheet.

  2. Mix the flour and baking powder together in a large bowl, then rub in the butter until the mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs.

  3. Stir in the feta, grated beetroot, and beetroot powder.

  4. Add the milk gradually until you have a soft, sticky dough (you may not need all of it).

  5. Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and knead very lightly. Pat into a round about 2cm (¾in) thick.

  6. Cut out rounds using a 5cm (2in) cutter and place them on your baking sheet. Re-roll the scraps to make more scones.

  7. Brush the tops with a little milk and sprinkle with a touch of beetroot powder.

  8. Bake for 12–15 minutes until well risen and golden.

  9. Cool on a wire rack and enjoy warm.

Zebedees Tip

These scones pair perfectly with a light cream cheese spread or a little butter. They’re a fun, nutritious way to add more colour and variety to children’s meals, and they make a tasty savoury option for any nursery tea time.
